When Ava Lorein was just two months old, her family moved from the Philippines to Singapore in March 1999, and moved again to California in July 2002. In September 2005, when she was 6 and a half years old, she started taking recreational gymnastics classes at Pegasus Gymnastics in Milpitas, California. After a few months, the gym closed and she continued her classes at Airborne Gymnastics in Santa Clara. In June 2006, her Dad got an offer to work for Texas Instruments and the family moved to Allen, Texas. As recommended by the coaches at Airborne, Ava Lorein tried out at WOGA and got accepted to Natasha's Team. She did not have much skills at that time, she had no routine on any of the apparatuses, and she couldn't even do a kip when she started training under Coach Natasha. That September, she participated in her first gymnastics competition, and competed as a Level 5 in the 2006 WOGA Rising Stars.
